A heritage to discover

Tournus, a city of art and history with a warm atmosphere, is located only 7 km from our gîte. You can visit the famous St Philibert abbey, a true masterpiece of Romanesque art. The 17th-century Hôtel Dieu is also remarkable for its patient wards and apothecary. You can also discover the Greuze museum, dedicated to Jean Baptiste Greuze, the famous 18th-century painter who was born in Tournus. Or, for something a little different, the Michel Grézaud bike museum contains a unique collection, where you can trace the history of the two wheels – you can even try some of them out!

The region is brimming with sites to discover, including Brancion with its castle perched on a rocky outcrop, creating a medieval ambiance, or the 17th-century castle of Cormatin. You can also discover the prehistoric caves of Azé, or the Blanot caves that lie 80 metres below ground. And let’s not forget that Cluny, the capital of Roman Christianity, is just a stone’s throw from the gîte.

Activities in abundance

The Saône river provides the opportunity to go fishing, but also canoeing and cycling. Indeed, the Voie Bleue even runs alongside the Saône and offers many kilometres of easy and pleasant cycle paths.
The Tournus area also offers 23 bike routes at four levels of difficulty. Hikers are not left wanting either, with no less than 13 marked trails; the GR76 passes through here too.
There’s no shortage of things to do. Depending on your interests, we’re happy to advise.
